TAD Cadaver Course
March 25-26, 2011 Memphis, TN
2 day course
Day 1: Cadaver Lab
-
7:30 am - 6:30 pm
You will start the day bright and early eating breakfast with Dr. Jack Fisher. Dr. Fisher uses this time to get to know you, and for you to become acquainted with the other course participants. After breakfast, elite will provide transportation to the cadaver lab. There are locker rooms available at the lab facility where you will change into scurbs provided by elite.
In the lab, you will be working on a
fresh, un-embalmed human cadaver.
All tissue specimens have passed multiple toxicity and infectious disease screenings, in accordance with the Department of Human Health and Human Services regulations.
What you will learn:
Proper placement protocol in 4 areas of the oral cavity.
Infrazygomatic
Placement-
Placing a TAD in the Zygomatic Crest. This cite is optimal for TAD placement.
Palatal Approach-
Placing TADs in the palatal area.
Incisial
Placement-
Placing TADs between the root of the upper and lower incisors.
Mesial
Placement-
Placing TADs between roots of the posterior teeth in both the mandable and the maxcilla.
We spend more than 1.5 hours on each placement type because the major factor in anchorage stability is
proper placement protocol.
Dr. Fisher places great emphasis on proper placement and feels strongly that when a TAD is placed it will remain stable under normal orthodontic forces. While there are many other factors in TAD stability: TAD design, bone type and force applied, when you place the TAD correctly it goes along way towards stability.
Injection Protocol
Anesthesia Protocol
Anatomy
Basic Mechanics
Soft Tissue Laser Procedures
There is a dental diode laser available for you to learn basic laser procedures.
Indications
TAD Types
How to talk to patients and parents
Wire Bending
Improper Placement Protocol-
You will deliberately place TADs in roots of teeth so you can see how it feels, and avoid this in your practice.
After you have placed several TADs, you will th
en
dissect the cadaver and evaluate your TAD placement.
Is the TAD sticking in the sinus? Is the BASE of the TAD seated against the bone? Is the TAD torqued in completely? How thick is the bone where you placed the TAD?
For this dissection procedure, we use a surgical chisel and mallet, which ensures you will have a clean bone fracture optimal for evaluation.
While the majority of content revolves around proper placement protocol, you will experience a vast array of rich content for you to take back and implement into your practice immediately. Dr. Fisher has his computer and a projector in the lab. Not only will you gain hands on experience with TADs, but you will also see tons of cases laced throughout your day in the lab. Dr. Fisher has placed in excess of 2600 TADs in his private practice, and a handful of residency programs where he is serving as an adjunct faculity member. TADs are quickly becoming the standard of care in an orthodontic practice, and this is absolutly hands down the best medium through which to learn.
Evening of Day 1: Free Time
The course participants, along with Dr. Fisher and elite staff members go eat dinner together at a nice restaurant in Las Vegas. Participation in this dinner is optional.
